Demolition of a Power Station

Our village fell silent,
As we witnessed the final
demolition
Of the town's 40 year landmark.

The thundering explosives
Packed against the building
erupted.
As the startled birds dashed away
to safety,
The amazed onlookers
Observed the falling concrete.

As a cloud of dust descended over
the scene,
The memories of past workers
went with it.
Village folk's emotions flooded
across their faces,
The chimneys would never be set
alight again.

Each one delivered his farewell,
To an old friend,
As a new station takes over,
So comes the end of an era
