Smart Metering and Sustainability At a february Lunch and Learn event, Jerry O'Sullivan, ESB Networks, outlined the ESB Sustainability Strategy, which Smart Networks and Smart Metering form a vital part of. Smart meters are a modern system of metering that has the potential to change significantly the way in which many of the activities of electricity supply are undertaken. Smart metering is believed to be one technology where end-use energy efficiency can be encouraged and emissions of greenhouse gases reduced as a measure to combat climate change. At the session, Jerry highlighted the challenges being overcome by the Smart Metering project, the timelines for the technology pilot and the Smart Metering strategy for the future. The presentation was one of an array of events that took place at ESBI, Stephen Court, Dublin, as part of Sustainability Week. "Smart Metering will act as a massive force for change, therefore we must ensure that the system delivered exceeds the needs and expectations of all internal and external stakeholders," Jerry told the gathering. |
