Steps to Engineering

International Women's Day

Steps to engineering celebrated International Women's Day in Engineers Ireland on Monday, March 9th by holding a female student seminar. More than 80 female secondary students from the Dublin area and four female engineers from the disciplines of electronic, electrical, civil and environmental engineering celebrated the great opportunities for women in their profession.

Frances Ruane, a guidance counsellor from the Institute of Education on Leeson Street, said, "The seminar was excellent, as it showed the variety of work and diversity of the profession. I believe it is so important for female students to understand the opportunities in engineering".

Speakers at the event were Doireann Barry from EirGrid, Julie Ascoop from Arup Consulting Engineers, and Breda Kiernan and Shirley Coyle, both from Dublin City University. Aisling Conway, a fifth year student from East Glendalough School in Wicklow, thought, "The seminar was very good, as all the speakers highlighted how diverse engineering is, something I hadn't thought before."

If you would like to volunteer and speak at our student seminars, which are held all around Ireland, please call Grainne Reilly on 01/6651349.
