HALOs in abundance

ESB Energy Services visits 70 homes on the Aran Islands

Inis Oirr islanders were recently delighted to receive Free HALO Surveys from ESB. Surveyors working on behalf of ESB Energy Services spent three days travelling around the scenic island carrying out the surveys and providing up to 70 householders with independent energy-efficiency advice on how to reduce their fuel bills and how to increase energy efficiency in their homes.

The programme was a huge success, as more than half the households on the island received a survey. It was later learned that the fantastic response was due in no small way to the blessing it got from Fr Joe Jennings, the Island's parish priest. By all accounts he very enthusiastically encouraged all his parishioners at Sunday Mass to avail of ESB's Free HALO surveys!

Credit must also be given to Paddy Crowe from the Inis Oirr Co-Operative, who was also hugely supportive and helped greatly in making sure as many householders as possible availed of the surveys. From the outset Paddy saw the immense benefits to be gained from such a programme, not just for the individual householders but for the Island in general. Paddy commented on 'the wonderful opportunity the locals were getting to find out first hand what they ought to do to make their homes more efficient'.

Local Bean an Tí and HALO Customer was equally full of praise for HALO and particularly for the KSN Surveyors and their willingness to assist and offer advice.

To date almost 20,000 free surveys have been carried across the length and breadth of the country. The closing date for final applications was Wednesday March 31st, however, the Energy Services team are currently working on launching a new HALO Programme in September.
