Denis Blanch retires

On February 5th, Denis Blanch retired after a long and distinguished career both as a member of ESB staff and as an ATGWU official. Denis joined ESB in 1959 and ten years later moved to the ATGWU where he worked as a full-time union official dealing with the ESB Branch.

Denis was a strong advocate of the partnership approach participating in the Review of Relationships and playing a leading role in negotiation of the CCR and PACT Change agreements. In 2003, Denis re-joined ESB working under the auspices of the Industrial Council and carrying out pioneering work in the development of the now widely respected Conciliation and Mediation services.

Speakers at Denis’s retirement function included the Chief Executive Padraig McManus, Chairman of the Industrial Council Kevin Foley, Human Resources Executive Director, Luke Shinnors and ESB Group of Unions Secretary, Davy Naughton.

Denis and his family were joined on the night by a large number of friends and colleagues from across ESB and the trade union movement for a most enjoyable function to celebrate his career in ESB.
