A week in the life - Seamus O'Flynn
Occupation:
Production Manager, Rousch
Power Station, Pakistan.
What is your typical week?
live, work and play on the site
which is an enclosed compound
containing both the plant and the
colony living accommodation.
Work is a 5 1/2 days a week; usual
day is 8 to 6, extended lunch on a
Friday for prayer. Generally my
week is taken up dealing with the
owner of the plant regarding
contractual issues, long–term
planning and strategic issues for
the future operations of the plant.
The planned outages for 2006 and
2007 overhauls are keeping me
pretty busy at the moment. This
involves meeting with Siemens.
The only repetitive activity in a
typical week is attending the daily
morning management meetings to
review the previous day's plant
performance and production
figures. Once a month I have a
performance review meeting with
the owner of the plant.
If you could change something
in your week what would it be?
Add an extra Sunday morning to
the week. We usually do a cook–out
on a Sunday morning and relax in
the early morning sun; it gets
much too hot by early afternoon.
How do you chill out?
There are reasonably good facilities
on site: swimming pool, gym,
squash courts and tennis courts.
Most evenings I play a game of
tennis or go for a swim.
Occasionally on a Saturday evening
you might find me in the bar
having a locally brewed beer and a
game of snooker with my
colleagues Jim and Paraic.
I love sailing, although there is not
much sailing here in the Punjab as
we are approx. 650 miles from the
coast. But I do manage to get out
on the ocean when on R&R.
If you had the opportunity to
pursue another career, what
would you like to do?
I am happy with my career at
present. However, if I had to pick
something else it would be sailing
a ketch or running a cruise
yachting business.
What is your biggest personal
ambition?
To own a small pub on the coast,
either in West Cork or Indonesia,
with of course a nice sheltered
anchoring for my boat.
