ESBI in Bosnia and Herzegovina project

ESBI has worked in partnership with Plancenter of Finland and the Bosnian Hydrometric Institute to develop the river basin management planning process for Bosnia and Herzegovina. The Project is funded through the EU CARDS Programme and is based in Sarajevo under the Ministry of Foreign Trade and External Relations. The project covers the whole of the territory of the country, including the Republic of Srbska, Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina and Brsko.

ESBI's contribution focused on integration of the river basin management planning process into the EU Water Framework Directive and in establishing a national structure to implement the Directive. The Final Project Conference was held in Sarajevo on the 3rd of April 2006 where the keynote address on the Water Framework Directive was presented by ESBI's Paddy Kavanagh to Government Ministers, EU Representatives and over 100 experts and public representatives from the country.
