New President Elect for BIAT Jim Kirwan MBIAT was formally inaugurated as President Elect of British Institute of Architectural Technologists at the BIAT AGM in November last. Jim has been a member of BIAT since 1987 and took part in the amalgamation between BIAT and the former Institute of Architectural and Associated Technology, Ireland. During those negotiations he held the position of President of IAAT. He served as the first Chairman of BIAT Republic of Ireland Centre and eventually took over as a Councillor. In 1990 he was elected as Honorary Treasurer of the Institute and was given the task of bringing the Institute's accounts into the 'black', a task he has completed admirably. Presently Jim is employed by the ESB as a Project Coordinator and has gained a wide experience in both the engineering and architectural fields. He has also worked abroad for the ESB, principally in the Middle East. Jim said of his appointment, "I was extremely pleased with the confidence council had shown by electing me as the first president of the Institute outside of the UK and look forward to my term of office with enthusiasm." Jim is married to Ursula with two boys, Philip and Selig. |
