GAA Gaelic Football Inter-firms League 2009

ESB v Accenture Dolphin Park

After a long absence from the inter-firms tournament, the Dublin Area ESB Gaelic football team returned to this competition in style with a comprehensive win over Accenture at Dolphin Park on Monday July 13th. Heavy rain just before the match threatened to put a damper on things but the skies brightened up just in time to make a lovely evening that was matched by the football on the pitch. ESB fielded an impressive line-up of players from ICT, ESBI, Customer Supply, ESB Networks, Power Generation, Shared Services and from several other offices around the Dublin Area.

The ESB team was led out by captain Declan Lannon and starting strongly, they quickly got on the score board with a well-taken point from Patrick Logue, who went on to become the game’s top scorer. Neil Mullarkey proved a handful at centre forward and good support play from corner forwards Michael Sammin and Kevin Turley aided the attack, which saw Patrick the-goalpoacher Logue find the net twice. ESB had the rub of the green (and the aid of the bright sunlight ) to see John O’Donoghue’s 50 deceive the Accenture keeper and dip under the crossbar for another ESB goal. Disciplined display in defence kept most of the Accenture threat at bay with some fine clearances from Kieran Coughlan and some brave last gasp tackles from Stuart ‘Scotty’ Scott delighting the sideline crowd.

Accenture looked more threatening for a period in the second-half and scored 1-2 and for a time ESB found scores hard to come by but a superb team effort saw them continue to work hard and turn the tide back in their favour. ESB ran out comfortable winners 3 -14 to 1-5.

The ESB Dublin GAA Club committee would like to acknowledge the support of ICT group and all the help, support and encouragement of Colum Grogan and John O’Riordan of ESB GAA Club. Many thanks also to our friends in Templeogue Synge Street GAA club for the use of their pitch and facilities.
