Keep it coming Electricaid is forever amazed at the variety and ingenuity of our members and supporters’ fundraising ventures. Apart from our own main fundraisers, such as Christmas card sales and annual fasts, and totally separate from the huge flood of Teshie-related events, we benefit from a constant flow of surprises! These are many once-off impromptu ways of raising badly-needed funds for ElectricAid – usually involving a bit of fun along the way. They are always suggested and organised by staff groups or individuals. We are humbled and delighted by your generosity and imagination. Last September, a long-drive competition at the SPORTSCO World Cup raised an amazing €900. Our 'Four Peaks' friends raised €3,139 in October. In March of this year, the Great Island Benevolent Fund was wound up, donating €2,600 to ElectricAid. Derek Russell of ESBIE raised €1,390 while running the London Marathon. On a more modest and fun basis the WAN team in ESB Telecoms raised €101 with a ‘swear box’! Peter Murphy of ICT Group had a house party where guests donated to a variety of possible charities and ElectricAid benefited by €75. All of this generosity adds up and makes a difference. We raise about €50,000 per year from onceoff and non-payroll donations. This supports six or seven lifechanging projects – which would not otherwise be funded. We thank each and every one of you – and challenge you to come up with even more ideas! Another CD/book sale in Head Office in aid of ElectricAid is expected to take place shortly. Donough O’Brien, ex Training Services, is currently winding up the affairs of the Austro-German Society – again to our benefit. Chris O’Neill of ICT is planning a stand-up comedy hour – and watch out for the Giant ElectricAid Change Jar coming your way soon. |
