Sustainable Energy Awards 2007 ESB CUSTOMER SUPPLY The sustainable Energy Awards were held in the Crowne Plaza Hotel on November 15th where guest of honour was Minister Eamon Ryan TD with ESB represented by Brid Horan, Executive Director ESB Customer Supply & Group Services. The awards encourage, recognise and reward excellence in energy management and are organised by Sustainable Energy Ireland and sponsored by ESB Customer Supply. Energy savings of €23m were made by the participants in this year's awards and the equivalent of 211,000 tonnes of CO2 emissions have been removed from the atmosphere. Minister Ryan said that, "it is very encouraging to see such vigour and enthusiasm among the organisations participating in the awards". He also remarked that energy efficiency is not the preserve of large industry and that SME's also have a vital part to play. Brid Horan spoke on behalf of ESB and informed the attendees of ESB Customer Supply's commitment to energy efficiency and the fact that ESB had led the way from the 1920's, with Ireland's first major energy efficiency project - the Shannon Scheme in Ardnacrusha. Brid also stated that ESB was committed to playing a key role in driving the renewables agenda and in helping to ensure the sustainability of our environment. ESB is centrally involved with the Minister, his Department and the Energy Regulator in rolling out a smart metering pilot project involving 25,000 customers. Smart metering will allow customers to manage their electricity usage to ensure lowest consumption during expensive periods of power generation and will allow supply companies to provide time of day tariffs to incentivise customers to cut their usage during peak demand periods. ESB Customer Supply was delighted that its customers achieved great success on the night with Pacific Care, a winner, and both Leopardstown Racecourse and Lee Strand highly recommended at the ceremony. |
