New ESB Board member

New ESB board member Seán Conlan was born and educated in Dublin. After qualifying as an electrical engineer at UCD he worked in a variety of engineering roles in Africa, Ireland and several countries in Europe before specialising in quality management, transformation, change management and education.

During his tenure as Chief Executive of Excellence Ireland, the national independent quality association, from 1994 to 2003, Seán led the development of programmes to enable Irish organisations improve their performance. Seán also developed an action-learning based Leaders Forum for CEOs and business leaders.

He served as President of the European Organisation for Quality from 1998 to 2000 and led the European Quality Vision project and the development of a European Customer Satisfaction Index.

His other roles include: Trustee of the Irish National Hygiene Partnership, former Board member of the Irish National Accreditation Board and member of the Consultative Council of the Food Safety Authority of Ireland. In late 2003, Seán left his native Dublin and now lives in Leitrim, where as well as continuing his involvement in the development of European quality concepts, works on various teaching and developmental programmes for the Institute of Technology in Sligo, particularly in the area of Breakthrough Change, Contemporary Management and on-line learning.

He has also cultivated new interests in Leitrim - the least populated and most organic county in Ireland.
