Good housekeeping in historic houses On tuesday November 4th, The Irish Georgian Society and Number 29, ESB's Georgian House Museum, held a Seminar ‘Good Housekeeping in Historic Houses'. The seminar was presented in association with the Office of Public Works and the Castletown Foundation. The event took place in Ireland's finest Palladian House – Castletown House. Speakers during the seminar included Desmond Fitzgerald, Knight of Glin and President of the Irish Georgian Society, Brendan Delany, ESB's Archive & Heritage Manager, Dr. Hugh Maguire, Museums & Archives Officer, Heritage Council, Katy Lithgow, Head Conservator, National Trust in England, Kieran Burns and Pauline Holland No. 29, Susan Corr, Paper Conservator, Fergus Purdy Furniture Conservator –Restorer, Lorna Barnes, Consultant Conservator Glass & Ceramics, Cliona Devitt, Textile Conservator and Historian, Simone Mancini, Head of Conservation National Gallery of Ireland, Mary Heffernan OPW Project Director for Castletown, Farmleigh and Kilkenny Castle and Emmeline Henderson, Assistant Director & Conservation Research Manager with the Irish Georgian Society. Owners, managers and curators of historic houses both in public and private care attended to learn about the importance of good housekeeping and receive expert advice on the care of their collections. Attendees at the seminar were given practical advice on how to handle, clean, store and display their paintings, furniture, textiles, books, glass and ceramics. |
