AMS conference launches Safety Competence System Asset Management Services (AMS), ESBI Engineering And Facility Management held their first Safety Conference on Friday, October 24th in Dublin. Taking place on the last day of ESBI Safety Week 2008, the conference was attended by 42 staff from across the AMS group. The goal of the event was to raise awareness of safety within the AMS operational environment and to heighten safety awareness for staff in general. The conference also provided a platform for Jim Spain to launch the new AMS Safety Competence System. Presentations on Near Miss/ Good Catch Reporting, Risk Assessment, Operational Safety, Site Safety and Safe Driving were delivered by Liam Mannion, Paul Clancy, Alan Staunton (ESB Networks), Michael Hanley (Safety Consultant) and Brian Gray respectively. In the afternoon, an excellent interactive session on the practical application of Risk Assessments was lead by Frank Shiel, Health and Safety, Linda Ryan, Communications and Paul Clancy, Health and Safety. The lively workshop engaged staff through the risk assessment of various operational scenarios. Finally the day concluded with a thought-provoking talk by guest speaker Nick Leeson. Nick, of Rogue Trader fame, spoke at length about the dangers associated with taking risks in an uncontrolled environment. Mike Fitzgerald, Manager AMS, closed the conference, saying "We had a very successful day. It was so valuable to take time out so that staff had the opportunity to work through practical risk assessments that we are launching to support our operations. I'd like to thank all presenters and all staff for embracing the safety challenge." |
