Woodcollective features at Plan Expo Eco-Build Trade Fair
Sustainability update
ESBI
Eugeme Boyle, architect with ESBI's Building consultancy group, recently exhibited a sustainably driven collaborative project called Woodcollective at the annual Plan expo eco-Build Trade fair, held at Rds, Dublin from 02-04 November.
Eugene was invited to showcase his project at the Woodspace exhibition opened by Minister of state at the department of agriculture, fisheries and food Tony Kileen Td. The Woodcollective design, supported by Wood Marketing federation and cofoRd, revolved around a case study on the successful design and build installation that featured at electric Picnic this year.
Woodcollective was made from sustainably-sourced homegrown spruce, supplied by glennon Brothers sawmills and was implemented by a team of 18 people, with project management, design and safety being coordinated by eugene. The project consisted of integrated shelter, accessible surfaces and public seating and also incorporated interpretative information on the life cycle and sustainable attributes of wood as a renewable resource. esB customer supply also collaborated on the project's sustainable lighting and its installation.
The exhibit, which was well received by event organisers and the public, drew particular interest from design students visiting the exhibition.
"Woodcollective demonstrates how successful collaborations between industry, education and research and development, can innovate and integrate elements like design, fabrication and the use of materials in the future," commented eugene. "Many thanks to all involved, especially our supporters, the crew responsible for the fabrication, ESB Customer Supply and my colleagues, Ray Hester, Manager, ESBI Sustainability and Building Solutions and Mark Field, Graphic Designer with the Publishing Design Team, ESBI."
