ESB Power Generation hears SIP progress reports from power stations

On Novemb er 5th, champions from Power Generation stations gathered in Portlaoise to report on progress with their Sustainability Improvement Plans (SIPs).

North Wall: Reported on SIP progress with thermal imaging, water leak investigation, energy monitoring, energy efficient lighting.

Lough Ree Power: A report was presented on SIP progress with woodchip biomass trials, water saving schemes of nearly 1million litres a year and transport schemes saving 40kg of CO 2 a year.

West Offaly Power: Have also held trials of biomass (sawdust and woodchip) burning, and electrical operations on transformers have saved 1 MWH per day.

Marina: Are investigating LED outdoor lighting, optimising energy and waste management for open cycle operation.

Erne: Reported on design stage sustainability improvements in their Light, Heat and Power project as part of the stations upcoming major overhaul, and their wind turbine renewable pilot project.

Ardnacrusha: Investigating biodiesel / sustainable transport, and efficient pump replacement.

Fisheries: Updated on the sustainability service the hatcheries provide to hydro stations, and the river renewal project in the midlands
