Rhythm of life
City of Cork Male Voice Choir
The City of Cork Male voice Choir has enjoyed success at all levels since it was founded in 1968. Its repertoire extends beyond concert appearances to fully staged operatic productions.
The choir has had a very strong link with the ESB that goes back to the founding of the ESB/Jim Carlton Choir that sings at the annual Mass for deceased staff.
Wilton-based ESB EAP officer Martina Mannix has coordinated this event for many years and it is one of the most moving events of the year. It takes place on the last Saturday of November in St. Joseph's Church, Wilton in Cork.
As well as having many ESB members, through the kind help of former ESB Worker Director and retired staff member Denis Holland, the choir has benefitted from ESB sponsorship down through the years. various ESB managers and staff at all levels have leant their support to the choir. Present day members of the 50-strong group include: Sean Murphy, Derry McCarthy, Barry Holland and Aiden (Chris) Duke.
The choir has travelled far afield and marched in the New York St Patrick's Day Parade in a trip where a special highlight was to sing at a Mass in St. Patrick's Cathedral.
Producing three CDs over the years (Paddy Whisky Album, Rhythm of Life and Memories), the choir plans to have their first album digitally remastered and rereleased shortly.
