ESB Networks CPD Awards

ESB networks received a Merit Award at the recent Engineers Ireland Company of the Year Awards. The award, presented by Minister of State, Brendan Smith T.D., was accepted on behalf of ESB Networks by Joe O'Mahony, Manager Network Projects, and Valerie Little, HR Manager, ESB Networks.

More than 275 organisations are formally involved in the accreditation scheme. The award, now in its third year, is designed to identify and share best CPD practices and to celebrate the achievements of accredited organisations. The award is aimed at recognising those companies that have demonstrated clear-cut business benefits arising directly from Continuing Professional Development (CPD) practices for their engineering staff.

All finalists have been accredited by the Engineers Ireland quality assurance scheme for employers, which is designed to support lifelong learning by stimulating and recognising good organisational practice in the area of professional development for engineers and technical staff.

The scheme is supported by the Department of Enterprise, Trade and Employment and plays an important role in the Government's Lifelong Learning agenda.

Those shortlisted for the overall Company of the Year and Salmon of Knowledge award were: ABB Ltd (Dundalk); Boston Scientific (Galway); Clarke & Associates; ComReg; ESB Networks; Helsinn Birex Pharmacueticals; Nicholas O'Dwyer; Roughan & O'Donovan; Vilicom, and White Young Green Ireland.

Engineers Ireland's Industry Director, úna Parsons, said the judges were "delighted with the large number of high quality entries received." ABB Ltd (Dundalk) was the overall winner.
