ESB Group Insurance draw aids TRUST

The annual christmas Draw organised by ESB Group Insurance has over the years contributed enormously to various charities including TRUST, a health and social service for people who are homeless and co-founded by Alice Leahy. A cheque for €6,500 was presented to Alice and Geraldine McAuliffe by ESB Group Insurance.

This amount included a donation from Group Finance who made the contribution in lieu of sending out Christmas cards. The philosophy of TRUST, which is located in Bride Road in Dublin City Centre, is 'not on the important medical, nursing and social services which it provides, but on the restoration of human dignity to those whom the rest of the world appears to despise'.

TRUST is a non party-political, non-denominational voluntary body set up in 1975 to provide medical and related social services for people who are homeless. It was the first service of its kind in Ireland and a model for similar services abroad. The organisation meets up to 60 men and women each day, with new people calling weekly. Nursing care, showering and washing facilities, advice, advocacy and friendship contribute to their holistic approach to health care.

They also provide approximately 500 outfits of clothing per month, all donated, apart from underwear and socks which are purchased. TRUST believes good clothes are part of the holistic approach to health care and helps people to restore their sense of self respect. ESB ElectricAID Ireland has also made funds available to the organisation which is doing such wonderful work to alleviate the plight of the homeless.
