Swan song on Baggot Street!

Rush hour traffic on Baggot St. on January 11th had to do a bit of ducking and diving as they drove past Larry Murphy's pub on Lower Baggot St, just around the corner from ESB Head Office!

Up to 30 drivers abandoned their vehicles to come to the assistance of a young swan who had wandered up from the Grand Canal - possibly with the intention of having a few scoops with the lads in the well known ESB watering hole! A quick thinking passer-by, Martin Malone from Lucan (who happened to be working on the ESB premises with contracting firm Maclyn Ltd.) snatched a tablecloth from the pub and carried the bird back to safety. It would appear that no one got 'ruffled' by the holdup and were more anxious to see that the bird got back to the canal without injury. Operation Freeflow at its best!
