Hello and Welcome
to the February issue of EM.

The words 'never put off 'til tomorrow' is something we all buy into every now and again but like all good intentions we mean it at the time but as the days and weeks fly by we find that a lot of these good intentions have fallen by the wayside.

One promise I made some time ago was that I would try and catch up with a few old colleagues around the country before too long and not leave it until, in some cases, too late. A Christmas card once a year is a poor option when a phone call or better still a visit would have been so much more appreciated.

One such intention which sadly came too late was a long overdue visit to Anne Joye at the nursing home she resided in, in Gormanstown, which was planned for shortly after Christmas. My colleague Brid Tunney and I had kept in touch with Anne over the years and much admired the woman who became part of the history of ESB. Described as a woman ahead of her time, Anne passed away in Jan. at the age of 97 and she was, thankfully, in perfect health up to Christmas.

Anne would have interviewed pretty much every woman who came into ESB over the decades and when interviewed for the 75th Anniversary edition of EM in January 2003 she still displayed the same interest and knowledge of the company as she had when she played such an active role throughout her years there. If ever a name suited the person then Anne Joye's was one - she was indeed a joy to listen to and in that interview back in 2003 she would have left an abiding memory with me of a woman still larger than life.

So don't put off those promises to call on family, friends and colleagues. They may not always be there and you may have lost out on a wonderful memory.
