Care while you clean

Cleaning is something all of us do on a daily basis; therefore cleaning products are everywhere - in our homes, offices and on our clothes. In our global war against germs we may be making things worse…

Most of the conventional cleaning products we use are petroleum based, a substance reported to have health and environmental implications. Why not make an effort to find natural cleaning products or cleaning methods that will keep your things clean and fresh without the toxic side effects- two options are:

Baking soda - An abrasive which can be used straight from the box to polish. It has a high pH and is a natural and effective deodouriser that does not mask, but actually eliminates odours at the source, by changing the pH and neutralising the odour in its tracks.

White vinegar - An effective grease cutter that stops mold and mildew. Vinegar is non-toxic and does not leave any residue. Be careful to use only plain white vinegar and not any flavoured or apple cider variety. As it is an acid do not use it on any stone or marble surface.

Green cleaning tips
A breath of fresh air It is not uncommon for the air inside a home or office to be more toxic than the air outside. Keeping windows open as often as possible allows fresh air in and keeps toxins flowing out.

Air fresheners Instead of buying air fresheners try boiling cinnamon, cloves or vanilla. It leaves a pleasant, natural aroma in your home.

Leave toxins outside Start a new policy of leaving your shoes at the door when you get home. It means that all the outdoor toxins that you have been walking through all day are confined to one placemaintaining a healthy interior environment.
