Kieran Hynes

It is with deep sadness that we remember a work colleague, neighbour and a true friend who passed away rather unexpectedly after an illness that he bore with tremendous dignity and humility.

Kieran Hynes lived in St. Kieran's Park, Shannonbridge and worked in the local Shannonbridge Generation Station. He started his career with ESB in Ringsend Station, relocated to the Midlands in 1972 and worked in Ferbane Station for a while before moving to Shannonbridge, where he worked as an Instrument Technician.

His devotion to detail, perfection and safety ranked him as one of the top Instrument Technicians in the country. Those working beside Kieran, some for close to 30 years, know it was a true joy to have known him, worked with him and to have been associated with him and his family.

Kieran was technically very astute and his vast repertoire of knowledge was put to use not only in his own station but also when he went on mobility to Ferbane, Great Island, Moneypoint, Aghada, North Wall and Poolbeg. Kieran was one who loved to impart the vast amount of expertise he had accumulated over the years and this really came to fruition when he spent time in the Ringsend Training Centre as an Instructor and also in the time he spent compiling notes and handouts in folders for distance learning.

Kieran's love of fishing, boating, music and all things associated with country life made this Dub fit into his community like one who was reared to country life. A terrible sadness befell the village of Shannonbridge with the death of Kieran Hynes. His work colleagues and acquaintances were deeply saddened with the untimely death of so fine a gentleman.

To his wife Veronica, his daughters Carina and Susan and his sons Simon and Jonathon, may I, on behalf of everyone who was so enriched to have known Kieran, express our deepest sorrow and sympathies at his passing. Veronica and her family can be assured of all our support and prayers at this time of great loss to them.
