Charities topped up by mobile phone licences

Two charitable organisations, Enable Ireland and ElectricAid Ireland, are benefiting from the growth in mobile phone usage.

ESB Telecoms Ltd, which provides carrier services to all the mobile phone operators is marking the completion of its 1,000th licence by making donations to both charities. The 1,000th licence is with Meteor for antennae at the company's Parkmore site in Galway. Meteor has joined with ESB Telecoms in making the donations to Enable Ireland and ElectricAid.

Marking the milestone, Tom Bambury, General Manager ESB Charities topped up by mobile phone licences Telecoms said the growth in mobile phone usage is benefiting more than just the phone user.

"The phenomenal growth in the mobile telecoms market in Ireland is helping increase the choice available for consumers," he said. "And with these donation will also make a real difference to people in need."

ESB Telecoms owns and operates more than 300 telecommunications masts in Ireland, as well as the National Telecommunications Fibre Optic Network that provides high bandwidth services to mobile phone service providers and connects customers across the country.
