ElectricAid: Responding to emergencies

ElectricAid Project Update

News: ElectricAid

ElectricAid is first and foremost a Development Agency, funding long-term sustainable development for people in the Developing World. We think that the real answer to people's problems is economic and social development. There is no quick fix, but an amazing amount of real progress can be generated with small amounts of well-directed funding. This is our 'bread and butter' mission.

ElectricAid, when it can, also responds to emergencies. We were founded as a response to the Ethiopian famine of the 1980s and we still respond to appeals for short-term emergency relief. Our hugely successful Tsunami appeal generated €0.55 million in 2005 - a shining testament to the generosity of the ESB community. In 2009, many of the emergencies did not get a high media profile, but we continued to respond, both at home and in the Developing World. We donated over €53,000 to seven separate emergency appeals and we could not have done this without your continuing generosity. In particular, the €30,000 raised during OctoberFest went directly to some of these appeals. You have significantly helped real people in desperate need from the Shannon to Sumatra, from Kenya to India. Again, on their behalf, all we can really say is 'Thank you'.
