Retirement of Ciaran Murphy
Ciaran Murphy decided to
avail of VSS after more than
43 years service and a
presentation was made to him on
Wednesday 21st December at the
Beaumont House.
Ciaran started his ESB
Apprenticeship at the tender age
of 15 in October 1962. On
qualifying in 1967, he worked in
the 38kV Stations section of
Dublin North West Group, before
moving to all areas of group
construction work, initially based
in Kylemore Road and
subsequently in Blanchardstown.
In 1990, Ciaran was appointed
Area Supervisor, Coolock, and in
1994 transferred back to
Blanchardstown as Construction
Supervisor.
In 1997 Ciaran moved to Finglas
as Network Improvement
Supervisor in North Branch, and
as Projects Supervisor in Network
Projects from 2001. It was in this
period that Ciaran with his
construction team began the
mammoth task of replacing the
URD system in Dublin North (all
650 subs and cable) and completed
the project just in time last week,
and so his legacy is ensured.
Ciaran has worked tirelessly in
all of his work areas and made a
substantial contribution to each.
He has also been generous with his
time to contribute to the social
scene with his colleagues and is
the handicap secretary in the
North Branch Golf Society. Ciaran
has made friends with the many
colleagues he has worked with
throughout his years in ESB. We
would like to wish Ciaran and
Mary a long, happy and healthy
retirement.
