ESB International and IRFU join forces to bring international Rugby to Buccaneers RFC. On Friday 27th January 2006 ESB International were proud to join the Irish Rugby Football Union in bringing International under 21 Rugby to Buccaneers RFC.ESB International Under 21 Rugby is a three match programme which sees Ireland play Italy, Wales and Scotland. The first ESB International Under 21 Rugby game is against Italy on the evening of February 3rd at Dubarry Park, Athlone the home of Buccaneers RFC. The game against Wales is scheduled for the 24th February and the last game will be played on the 10th March against Scotland. Commenting on the sponsorship, ESB Chairman, Tadhg O' Donoghue said he is delighted to see International Rugby played in Athlone. "This three match programme hosted by Buccaneers RFC, promises to deliver top quality International Rugby and will provide a key indicator of the state of the game in Ireland and the other countries playing ESB International Under 21 Rugby". Mr O'Donoughue also congratulated Buccaneers RFC for bringing International Rugby to the Midlands on such a scale. One of the key factors in ESB International's decision to associate the company with under 21 Rugby is the all island footprint of the game. The Irish energy market is moving to an all island market operation, ESB International is already operating on both sides of the border. Rugby has operated on an all island basis for many years now. The Ireland v Italy game on 3rd February and the Ireland v Scotland game on 24th February will be televised live by RTE. |
