Government appoints new Chairman Designate

The government has appointed former AIB chairman, Lochlann Quinn, as Chairman of ESB with effect from January 22nd. Mr Quinn will have a five-year term and succeeds Tadhg O'Donoghue who announced his retirement in November.

Commenting on the appointment Energy Minister, Eamon Ryan, said, "I am very pleased that Lochlann Quinn will be bringing his unparalleled experience in the business and energy world to the ESB Board." Mr Quinn is a former chairman and director of Allied Irish Banks. He was deputy chairman of Glen Dimplex and is chairman of the National Gallery of Ireland.

Welcoming the appointment, ESB Chief Executive Padraig McManus said, "We look forward to working with Lochlann and warmly welcome him to ESB. His remarkable record in business and his vast experience will be invaluable to ESB in the challenges ahead. We know he will continue to give the kind of strong guidance that marked Tadhg O'Donoghue's seven year tenure as Chairman."
