New look for ESB Head Office foyer Over the past number of months refurbishment work has taken place in the reception area of ESB Head Office. The work culminated in November 2008 when the Robert Ballagh mural entitled ‘Tribute to Dr McLaughlin’ was mounted in the reception area after having resided in Inniscarra Power Station since 2002. On Monday, December 1st, Chief Executive Padraig McManus formally unveiled the painting and declared the refurbished reception officially open. The opening was attended by the EDT, staff from numerous HO locations, architects from BCG who designed the new look reception and Duke Construction who carried out the work were also represented. James O’Loughlin, Manager Facilities & Project Management Shared Services, opened proceedings and thanked everyone for attending. He thanked all those who had been involved in the work and also the management and staff of Inniscarra for facilitating the return of the painting to Head Office. In his speech, the Chief Executive outlined the history of the Ballagh mural, which was commissioned in 1971 by the late Paddy Moriarty and which had been on display in Head Office until the previous refurbishment of reception when it was removed and put on display in Inniscarra. Padraig welcomed the transformation of the reception area into a bright, modern look which, when taken with the new access control system, was a definite plus to both the look and security of Head Office. Earlier in the day the Chief Executive paid a visit to Central Security Station to see for himself the operation of the new security system within Head Office. |
