Editors letter Hello and
Welcome It is hard to imagine the vast difference at the Teshie site since the first group of ESB volunteers commenced work on the school. A picture tells a thousand words and if you look at the photographs in this issue you will see the miracles performed for the school-children there. Sanitation, classrooms and grounds have all been brought up to a standard that would have been hardly dreamt of a year ago and the Resource Centre, with a fully equipped IT Room, means that the children now have the chance, through education, to avail of opportunities heretofore unobtainable. For the two groups of volunteers who travelled from Ireland, the results were beyond anything they could imagine. Grassed lawns, footpaths, gravelled walkways and windows was a view that was difficult to imagine given the barren, asbestos roofed 'sheds' they would have met on their initial arrival on site. The children and teachers themselves are absolutely delighted with their much improved facilities and we can only guess how much easier it must be for them to encourage improved performances in vastly improved conditions. In fact, for those of us who got to know some of the pupils of Teshie, one of the amazing observations we made was that despite the third world conditions the pupils previously had - they never missed a day at school and were so anxious to learn and improve their situation through education that it put many of us to shame. ElectricAid can be justly satisfied with another successful project under their umbrella. |
