ElectricAid's charity Christmas cards 'light up' Head Office The annual switching on of the Christmas lights in ESB Head Office took place on Thursday, December 4th and the event once again formed part of the launch of ElectricAid's charity Christmas cards. The competition, with a 'green' theme, saw a huge amount of entries this year and is sponsored by EM. TThe event also saw the presentation of cheques to three charities as a result of funds raised from the Sustainability Staff Survey. The charities were Vita, Laura Lynn Children's Hospice Foundation and the Samaritans. Representatives from the charities, who attended the event, spoke of the importance of the funds in relation to their various organisations and thanked ESB and staff for their efforts. The official presentations were made by Chief Executive, Padraig McManus, who once again congratulated the efforts of ElectricAid in managing to increase funding for charities and Third World organisations despite the current economic downturn. The Chief Executive welcomed the winners of the Art and Photography competition whose work was depicted in the ElectricAid and ESB Pensions Christmas cards. He also extended a warm welcome to the families who travelled long distances to be present. TThe cards, which were on recyclable paper and packaged this year in recyclable cardboard boxes, were available for sale by ElectricAid agents around the country, the shop in House 29 and ESB's restaurant in Head Office. TOn behalf of ElectricAid, James Foley outlined the work of the charity during the year and thanked everyone for their efforts. He also thanked Zahra Publishing for the wonderful job they did in designing the cards.
