What is the best postion, with regards to the sun, for taking a photograph in daytime - both landscape and an outdoor photograph of a person?

If the sun is very bright you are better to move to a shaded area where the light can be less harsh. If you want to get very creative experiment with reflectors and "fill flash". When shooting landscapes the position of the sun can have dramatic effect on the images produced. The image you want to achieve influences where the sun should be positioned. There are no set rules but the best way to learn is to get out and use your camera. Visit the same landscape at different times of the year and times of day to see how the sun can alter the scenery.

Please send your photography questions to the Editor at bernie.healy@esb.ie We will be happy to publish the answers.

EM is delighted to receive so many entries for the Staff Photography section. Unfortunately it is not possible to publish all entries that are received each month. However, please continue to submit your photographs. They are hugely popular and could be selected for another issue.
