Power Generation Safety Event Final

ESB Power Generation held its second annual safety event in the Ormonde Hotel, Kilkenny on the 30th November. The event was the culmination of a series of local events held during European Safety Week.

The event was opened by Pat Doherty, Executive Director Power Generation. Pat spoke about the high number of lost time injuries in Power Generation during 2005 and his firm belief that such injuries can and must be eliminated from the workplace. He asked that everyone present become a campaigner for safety in their own location.

The event consisted of a safety quiz together with an exercise on the management of an emergency. Thirteen teams took part in this year's event.

Just like last year the outcome were very close with North Wall taking the honours by the slimmest of margins. Three teams were in equal second place and it took several tie-break questions to separate them. West Offaly Power emerged in second place with Lough Rea Power third. Last year's winners, Great Island, lost out on the tie-break questions, eventually finishing fourth.

The trophy was presented to the winning team by Pat O'Doherty. Linda Ryan (Safe Driving Bureau) made a presentation on the need to be aware of the dangers of speeding and drink driving especially at this time of the year. EM
