Living Well - Feeling Great

Watch out for the 'Living Well - Feeling Great' Programme which will be coming your way in 2006

Not just for post-Christmas overload, but for life!

Christmas is over and at the beginning of the New Year we start to realise the effects the holiday season has had on our bodies. The question is, when do we do something about it? Try something new this year, you have nothing to lose. There is no need to sign up to expensive exercise programmes or go on a crash diet that makes you tired, sluggish and hungry.

This year, ESB are offering a programme that will help individuals take nutrition and exercise plans seriously and encourage them to do something good for themselves. 'Living Well - Feeling Great' has been designed to demonstrate how we can make small but significant changes to our lifestyle, diet and exercise patterns. The aim is to help us all feel better, live better - and longer!

About the 'Living Well - Feeling Great' Programme
'Living Well - Feeling Great' endeavours to increase awareness among staff of the benefits of a balanced diet and exercise plan in achieving and maintaining a healthy weight. The programme offers a fantastic opportunity for individuals to make healthy lifestyle changes so they can benefit from the significant choices made.

Whether a person wants to improve general health and longevity, make life activities easier and more enjoyable or even improve looks, this programme gives excellent advice and tips on how to set about in achieving a healthier lifestyle.

Differences can be made with exercise, but good nutrition goes hand in hand with this. A balanced diet is necessary to ensure the body has enough energy not just for a healthy lifestyle but also to exercise. The valuable and practical advice offered by the programme will help identify what a balanced diet is and how individuals can adopt healthier choices in relation to exercise and food intake.

What the 'Living Well - Feeling Great' Programme consists of:
The programme will be delivered to ESB staff, in groups of up to 25. It will be a 90-minute session and allows ample opportunity for interaction and discussion. A range of valuable information in both the fields of diet and exercise is included in the programme and will consist of the following topic

  • The benefits of different exercise types and the impact this has on health, to incorporate practical demonstrations

  • Advice on warming up / cooling down / stretching exercise

  • Practical tips on getting active

  • Balanced diet and foods to ensure healthy weight and lifestyle

  • Examples of what a good lunch should consist of

  • Guidelines as to what the ideal body weight should be
By taking simple measures such as increasing physical activity levels and improving nutritional intake, we can help prevent disease, improve quality of life and increase life expectancy. Give it a try - we can all do with a change for the better! For further information on 'Living Well - Feeling Great', please contact your local Health and Safety Rep, EAP Officer or OHS.
