ESB Independent Energy Strategy Day

ESBIE held its annual Strategy Day at Croke Park on November 17th with key note speaker Chief Executive Padraig McManus. His presentation concentrated on the importance of customer service to the success of ESB in the new deregulated market and it set the tone for the rest of the conference.

2006 has been a memorable year for ESBIE which consolidated its position in N.I. continuing to deliver value to customers with power sourced from the new ESB Coolkeeragh plant. In ROI it has steadily increased its customer base and from January 2007 it will have access to over 800MW of power making it the leading independent supplier in the allisland market.

Liam Molloy, MD at ESBIE outlined the successes of 2006 and the challenges facing ESBIE in 2007. He reiterated our commitment to improving customer service. As the new organisational structure is rolled out, a designated Customer Service Team will be responsible for meeting the business' Customer Service Standards. He also stressed that customer service is the responsibility of all staff and is a key issue for customers.

Bob Turley, Commercial Manager at ESBIE, discussed the progress made on increasing the customer base of ESBIE and the work taking place in managing customer relationships in what has been a difficult year for customers given recent price increases.

Sean O'Loughlin, Manager Customer Operations, outlined details of the new combined ROI and NI Customer Operations function emphasising its importance in helping the business to grow and succeed. With the business now structured on an allisland basis, it allows ESBIE to provide consistent service across the island to all customer segments.

Guest speaker Karl Mulhall, BT Ireland, addressed the requirements of BT when dealing with an energy supplier. Karl outlined the nature of the supply contract BT with ESBIE and discussed issues such as the separation of ESB Group into ringfenced businesses and the need for supply companies to act as a single point of contact in dealing with all energy related matters that might arise and to resolve issues in a prompt and speedy manner.

A group workshop which focussed on the initiatives that can be taken to improve the level of service to our customers completed the successful day at Croke Park a valued ESBIE customer.
