ESB Networks new IT solution supports all construction work

The integrated Work Management (IWM) solution is designed to support all Networks construction works from start to finish. It will replace a number of legacy work management systems and provide better information about Networks construction at all stages. In particular it will provide better management of materials, costs, and visible real time status of all construction works.

What are the benefits of IWM?
IWM will provide a consistent and complete set of work management processes. It will enable real-time information to get to the right people across Customer Services, Network Projects, ESBI, Asset Management, Finance and Supply Chain. The introduction of IWM is part of the Networks Information Technology Application (NITA) Programme and will provide numerous benefits across the business lines.

Customer Services
IWM will provide Customer Services with a single view of all construction work. The new estimating tool, to replace DWMS, will facilitate work order creation more suited to scheduling and recording of Assets in ARM. Automated materials supply processes will ensure better materials management.

Network Projects
IWM will enable Network Projects to have visible, real-time status of all pre-construction issues associated with construction works. The new estimating tool, will facilitate standardised design costing and work order creation and recording of Assets in ARM. Similar to Customer Services IWM will facilitate management of projects through standardised and integrated views across all projects leading to consistent reporting against targets and regulatory requirements. Automated materials requisitioning using IWM will ensure materials are in-stock and construction work can start as planned where applicable.

ESBI
Currently ESBI are responsible for designing major Construction Projects for ESB Networks. The new estimating tool, will facilitate standardized costing and work order creation more suited to scheduling and recording of Assets in ARM. The introduction of IWM as a groupwide system will allow better integration between ESBI and ESB Networks in monitoring and managing major projects from design and materials to commissioning.

Asset Management IWM will be used by Asset Management to view and plan portfolios of projects that will support central planning using IWM. Asset management excellence will be enabled by improved Asst registration processes, investment management, engineering management and real time reporting from approval through to job completion across the total Capex spend.

Finance
IWM will provide many benefits for Finance including linking construction work to the regulatory plan, facilitating improved cost forecasting management, better contract management and providing more accurate cost and time capture.

Supply Chain Management IWM will aid the supply of materials based on demand driven view of work where applicable. This will provide improved materials forecasting across all construction processes.

What's next for IWM? The new IWM solution is now being built after the successful completion of the design stage. Following the completion of the build stage the solution will be tested and then implemented by ESB Networks and ESBI. Staff will be trained in September and October 2008 and the go-live date is set for November 2008.
