Appreciation

Bridget Liston

As we stumble along the bumpy path of life we sometimes come across a person who influences our lives in a very special way and helps to make this world a better place. When we said our final good-bye to Bridget Liston on Saturday June 16th last, we said good-bye to a very special person. Bridget had a brilliant mind and intellect, but above all, she was a woman of great wisdom. Her wisdom included qualities like compassion, sincerity, humility, integrity, grace, bravery, dignity, unconditional love and many more.

She worked in the local ESB Office in Newcastle West for 44 years and was an inspiration to all. On a voluntary basis in the Desmond Credit Union, she gave unselfishly of her time, energy and experience. From Bridget, we learned about customer care and treating the customer with courtesy and civility. The many tributes and large attendance at her funeral bore testament to this. She treated everyone in this manner, was slow to judge and quick to praise. She delighted in other people's success, particularly the young.

Like so many good people before her, her life was cut short by a serious illness. This she bore with courage, strength and with graceful dignity right to the end. I would also like to say a special 'thank you' to Mary, for her kindness in making it possible for the many friends, and colleagues from ESB and the Credit Union to visit Bridget in her final weeks and days. May she rest in peace. To her sister Mary, her family and her extended family we extend our deepest sympathy.

Pat McLoughlin.
