A LIFE in the week - Fiona Allan
Job Title/Description: I work in the
Sales and Marketing department of
ESB Telecoms. Very briefly, I am
involved in the implementation,
processing and monitoring of
customer orders. I also manage the
fibre optic wayleave payments to
landowners and deal with any
issues arising from this.
What do I like most about
your job?
I have worked with some of
the best people in my time with ESBT
However, while it is great coming in
and seeing the happy smiling faces
of my colleagues, Dave Walshe and
Gerry Noone, what I like best about
my job are the sweets and
chocolates that people leave on my
desk when they come back from
holidays.
If I wasn't in my current job,
what would I be doing?
I have no idea! I possibly would not
be in Ireland- maybe working
abroad somewhere.
If I had a choice of another
career what would it be?
I would definitely like to work with dolphins
in some capacity. I fulfilled a dream
to swim with dolphins when I was
in Israel a few years ago and I think
they are amazing creatures.
What person has influenced you
most?
I am not sure any one person
has unduly influenced me. I do
think my parents' sense of values
has certainly made me the person I
am today.
What upsets you most?
Cruelty to
animals. I cannot understand how
humans can hurt or inflict pain on
defenceless animals.
What is your favourite journey
and why?
My favourite journey is
getting on a plane and flying back to
Luxembourg where I spent six lifechanging
years. Lux Air is also the
only airline I know that gives out
Champagne and chocolates in
economy class. It's great
How do you chill out?
I have
always been an avid reader. I also
love the water and when not stuck
in a book I can usually be found
close to or in the sea. I love to swim.
I am planning to start another
kayaking course very soon.
Which four people, past or
present, would you invite to
dinner?
Elvis, simply because I love
him-I always have and always will.
Cleopatra because she lived in such a
fascinating period of history and I
think the world needs more strong
women leaders. Oscar Wilde because
I imagine he would be such an asset
to a dinner party with his fantastic
wit. I also feel the need to tell him
what a fool for love, pride and
vanity he was. Last but not least,
George Clooney. I'm a sucker for a
pretty face.
