Dublin student wins Positive Ageing photography competition

ESB Customer Supply has teamed up again this year with Age Action to sponsor Positive Ageing Week 2007. The week which will run from 28th September to 6th October is expected to be even bigger and better following last year's successful event. To kick off the sponsorship, ESB Customer Supply ran a radio advertising campaign and invited all customers to grab their cameras to capture positive images of ageing and older people in the community.

The competition was open to all nonprofessional photographers and, from entries received, we can see that Ireland's older population has never been so active.

The winning entry will be used in a national campaign to promote Positive Ageing Week 2007 and a selection of the best entries will also be exhibited during the week.

The aim of Positive Ageing Week is to encourage people to celebrate ageing and recognise that it is an opportunity, not a burden. This is certainly the case for Anne Walsh, 80 years young, the snap of her on top of Table Mountain in Cape Town won first prize in our competition and she will enjoy a welldeserved holiday in New York to celebrate. The winning entry, entitled "I am going to laugh "til I die" was submitted by Anne's granddaughter Joanne.

Second prize went to Tom Keogh, who received a trip to Prague for his photo of Ned Murphy (89) and his granddaughter Clodagh, happily cutting turf in the local bog in Donadea. Robert O'Mahony's photo of 92 year-old Ned Carmody and his grandnephews John and Terence came third.

The winning entrants were presented with their prizes at a function held in the McLaughlin Restaurant, ESB Head Office.
