Annual Sligo Walk The good weather might have broken in other parts at the beginning of May but once again the sun came out in Sligo for the 209 walkers who took part in the Annual Sligo Walk on Saturday, May 12th. This year saw a number of new entrants which the organisers were very happy to welcome while of course the big numbers came from the many staff who have made the trip to Sligo pretty much an annual pilgrimage at this stage. Year on year the local organisers and Sligo Walk Committee seem to improve on the already great facilities and organisation of the event. This year the placing of two portaloos on the route was welcomed by many, particularly by those who had a few beers the previous night! The annual event has now settled into a most enjoyable weekend with the Friday night being an occasion where many colleagues catch up from around the country and make for various restaurants around Sligo town. Then it's down to business at 8.00am sharp on the Saturday but with the many refreshment stops along the way it makes the going so much easier. And if the going gets too tough then you can always jump on one of the vans travelling the route but it has to be said this rarely happens! In any event the Order of Malta was on hand to care for those tired feet. The function on the Saturday night at the Sligo Park Hotel was another great night and thanks to the boys and girls of the Order of Malta feet seemed to have made a miraculous recovery as everyone took to the dance floor. Alan Murphy did a great job again this year providing a photographic slide show from scenes of the day. A round of applause is well and truly deserved to everyone involved. The overall winner of the 50k was Gerry Crean. Tony Leonard was the overall winner of the 30k and the overall winning team was Tarbert Power Station. The Sligo Walk in Pictures | ||||
