Hello and Welcome
to the June issue of EM.

The standard of photography has improved in leaps and bounds in EM and our staff photography section is attracting both a large increase in entrants and comment on the quality of the photographs published.

However, we are noticing an increasing number of business photographs which are not of a standard or quality that is suitable for publishing and in future we may not be able to include them with the articles submitted. Where professional photographers are not being used, it is essential that amateur photographers are aware of the resolution of the photographs that is required for publishing. And where professional photographers are being used it is still necessary to brief them in relation to what the photographs are being used for and the type of message we want to portray with the image.

Too often we receive the same type of shot: a group of people just standing in a line with no great life in the picture and nothing of interest to draw in a reader to the article. Presentation shots of various groups with the same one or two managers appearing in each photograph is also something to be avoided.

EM has issued guidelines in the past and we are happy to discuss your photo ideas and our photo requirements with anyone who submits items regularly or anyone sending in a 'one off '.

Likewise there are guidelines in relation to the word count for various types of articles whether it be a news item, a feature or an interesting snippet for Life.

At the end of the day we all want to achieve the same thing: to present your submitted article in the best possible way so as to attract and draw in readers who may or may or may not be immediately interested in the topic. Less is often more but we want to please so do contact us if you have an queries in relation to items you are thinking of submitting.
