Osaka Gas developing electricity as second core business

Osaka gas is ESBI's investment partner on the Amorebieta CCGT project. Osaka Gas has been in business since 1905. It has a 30% share of the natural gas market in Japan with 6.7 million customers and 16,000 employees. Osaka Gas is now developing electricity as a second core business.

Himeji is one of two Liquid Natural Gas (LNG) plants owned and operated by Osaka Gas in Japan. Japan imports all of its gas as LNG. Osaka Gas imports 6.4 million tons of LNG or over 5% of the world-traded volume. The Himeji plant serves 3 million customers and has 30 days storage capacity. A tanker arrives at Himeji every five days with gas from the Middle East, Indonesia, Brunei or Australia. Osaka Gas is a world leader in LNG technology and has pioneered many technical developments. Himeji also has a 50 MW CCGT on the site.

Safety is given top priority in the Himeji plant. No LTI has been recorded for the 80 staff since the plant went into operation. LTIs for contractor staff are fewer than one in four years.
