New safety initiative launched

The photograph to the right was taken recently during the annual fire drills which are held in HO. Paul McNamara is secured in the Evac chair to demonstrate the easy evacuation of mobility impaired persons down stairs in an emergency. There are seven such chairs strategically located throughout the Head Office complex.

In an emergency, it has the advantages of:

  • Requiring only ONE person to evacuate an unambulant person.
  • During the evacuation, it only takes up the width of one person. Thus, normal evacuation can take place on the same staircase, which is also available for use by Emergency and Rescue Services.
  • The unit folds up and can be stored neatly where required.
  • The EVAC+Chair is very easy to handle, lightweight and requires little maintenance - it will last forever and anyone can use it.
  • Facilitates compliance with Health and Safety at Works Acts, Building Regulations, Fire Safety Acts, Manual Handling and EC Directives, etc.
  • Assists Owners and Employers to meet their Duty of Care towards people in their buildings and provides a safe means of egress for everyone.
For further information, contact Des Hickey or Frank Graham at 27968/266667 or 6615356.

Demonstrating the ease at which people can be evacuated from a building using the EVAC Chair are Paul McNamara (in the chair), Frank Graham, (rear) and Des Hickey.
