Reader's Letter

13th April 2006

Mr John E Campion
Executive Director
Group Human Resources and Corporate Affairs

Dear John,
We did not want much time to pass before thanking you for the opportunity to take part in something as stimulating and demanding as the Power Challenge. We were very honoured to compete and even more honoured to win. Everyone who has undertaken the Power Challenge weekend has only admiration for the commitment of the organisers to arrange an event that runs so efficiently. The work required and preparation is greatly appreciated by all teams involved, particularly our group on this occasion.

We as a team were stunned when we were announced as overall winners, and therefore on reflection we did not properly express our heartfelt thanks for giving us an opportunity to take home the coveted prize. We undertook the Power Challenge for enjoyment and the opportunity to meet other non-Power Generation staff, and I think many people were surprised that we managed to win. As we were told many times later that night by other teams, "I am glad you won it, because if you can win it, maybe anyone can" – I assume this is a compliment.

We have also sent a similar letter to Cappanlea staff who were unbelievable over the weekend and deserve the appreciation and gratitude of all teams involved. In addition, on behalf of the other team members and myself, I would also like to thank the ESB for giving all the different business divisions an opportunity to meet other ESB members and talk to individuals from the wider ESB family, and we look forward to participating again next year.

Yours faithfully,
Aodhán McAleer (Ardnacrusha) on behalf of

Margaret Browne (North Wall)
Niall McGeorge (Poolbeg)
John Mooney (Marina)
Diarmuid Boyle (Moneypoint)
Fionn Griffin (Pigeon House)
