Editors letter

Hello and Welcome
to the March issue of EM.

Have you a gardening tip, a favourite recipe you'd like to share with other readers or indeed a favourite restaurant or destination you'd like to tell us about? If so EM would be delighted to publish the details. Remember, as well as being a keen gardener, cook, restaurant critic or traveller you could also try your hand at feature writing and thereby develop a whole new skill you never thought you possessed!

This is something we have encouraged with both our Staff Photography section and our art/photographic competition every Christmas. Designers and publishers have long told us that it is a terrific opportunity for people who are interested in doing something like this for a living to be able to produce a publication and say 'this is my work and it was published'. For young students in particular it is a wonderful chance to be able to add this to a CV or job application. So whether it's in the form of a Letter to the Editor or a feature please do send us is anything you feel we might be interested in publishing. On the other hand if you prefer to hide your light under a bushel we don't have to 'expose' your true identity.

In this issue of EM we feature the Travel Department which is located in ESBI in Stephen Court. I don't know if many of you are aware that it exists but obviously with ESB working in so many locations abroad it is a very valuable and time saving service to the company and the staff who need to get to locations from as far flung as Pakistan and Malaysia to more local destinations.

As well as introducing you to the work of this section it is a very informative feature which contains lots of travel tips for all our readers so I'm sure you'll find it very interesting. Particularly as we are starting to head into the Spring breaks and booking of Summer holidays. Nice thought to close on.

Letter to the Editor

Dear Editor,
A few weeks ago we had a serious thunder storm which interrupted power supply to several areas of Clonmel.

This happened around 3.00pm on a Saturday afternoon. In the area where we live half of the estate was without supply. During efforts to restore supply lights flickered on and off a few times. As darkness set in with a cold rain and strong wind we were of the opinion that we were going to be without supply until the following day, Sunday.

As it happened a 200KVA trafo was damaged during the storm. Under normal circumstances it would be considered to be a big job. But in hazardous conditions and artificial lighting it would be extremely difficult.

I decided to go outside to see all the houses with dim and dimming lighting. To my surprise I could see all these lights with men working on a trafo pole. Supply was restored around 9.30pm. I think it would be an honour to give a mention to the Supervisor and his staff for a job well done.
