The Energy Challenge Customer Supply launches schools CD Rom ESB Customer Supply has launched an energy saving awareness initiative which is available to primary schools throughout the country. The official launch took place in the Guardian Angels National School, Newtown Park Avenue in Blackrock, Dublin on January 30th. The Minister for Education & Science, Mary Hanafin T.D. and ESB Chairman, Tadhg O'Donoghue, were given a 'hands on' training course by the young pupils of the school. School Principal, Anne Cody, welcomed the Minister and the Chairman together with the Director of the Curriculum Development Unit at Mary Immaculate College in Limerick, Eucharia McCarthy. The Energy Challenge CD was created by ESB Customer Supply in association with the CDU to help primary school children become more skillful at identifying energy waste in the home, be more knowledgeable on the subject of energy efficiency and realise our responsibility in relation to the environment. The CD features a series of interactive activities requiring children to carefully explore examples of energy waste in the home. All scenes are animated and colourful, and facilitate a high level of exploration and interactivity. Children can avail of an optional audio facility and have text read to them throughout the exploratory activities. The Energy Challenge activities are linked with the Irish Primary School Curriculum for all classes from 3rd to 6th, particularly to the 'Environmental Awareness and Care' strand in Science and Geography. The pack includes supplementary educational materials and resources in the form of printable activity sheets, on-screen multiplechoice tests for children and information sheets for teachers. The CD will be available on www.esb.ie and has been produced both in Irish and English. It will be distributed by Mary Immaculate College, free of charge to all primary schools. ESB CUSTOMER SUPPLY |
