Safety first for busy day of visitors at Moneypoint

The ESB Power Station in Moneypoint was visited by Chief Executive, Padraig McManus and Power Generation Executive Director, Pat O'Doherty on Tuesday, February 5th. They were the first of three notable sets of visitors to the ESB power station at Moneypoint.

The two executives were there to carry out a safety audit of the Moneypoint Environmental Retrofit Project (MERP) site followed by a safety audit of Moneypoint Station. In the afternoon, the Chief Executive met with the PAN Group, which is the management/staff representatives' forum in Moneypoint. At the meeting he expanded on his vision for the future of ESB up to 2030.

Also on the same day, Moneypoint had the SGS Auditors on site for their preliminary audit for OSHAS 18001 accreditation which is an audit of our safety management systems. The team leading the preparation for the audit are: Ger Noonan, Sean Rynne, Michael Hogan and Christy Creevey. The final Audit is due to take place between Wednesday, March 12th and Friday, March 14th.

The third notable visitors were the US Coast Guard, who visited Moneypoint as part of a reciprocal arrangement they have with Ireland's Department of Transport's Marine Survey Office to examine how International Ship and Port- Facility Security (ISPS) codes are being implemented. These ISPS codes are now a mandatory security measure for both ports and ships that trade internationally.

The visiting party from the US Coastguard were: Jamie Bradshaw, Thomas L White and Thomas L Boyles and they were accompanied by Tom O'Callaghan and Daniel Hamilton of the Department of Transport. Daniel is a native of Kilrush and his father, Gerry retired, is a former member of Moneypoint staff.
