Rolling the safety message out in ESB Power Generation How do you effectively communicate key safety messages throughout the organisation? How do you improve the level of key information in relation to safety available to staff? As part of the ESB Power Generation's safety improvement plan, senior management have committed to producing a number of safety and training bulletins to cover relevant topics and to issue these to staff throughout the year. To help implement the initiative a task group was formed with members selected from across the business. This group consisted of Brían MacCoitir, Safety Services, Tommy Satelle, Poolbeg, Paul Watt, Marina, Colman Kerr, Fisheries and Tony Pierce, Turlough Hill. ESB Power Generation IT Administrator, Liam Kelly was charged with compiling, printing and distributing the bulletin. Building on the experience of a previous group, the team produced six bulletins in 2007 with a further six planned for 2008. Details of construction safety training courses, new safety guides issued, safe driving tips, safety incidents and initiatives were some of the items covered in the 2007 bulletins. A number of special bulletins were issued which covered the control of hazardous substances (COHS) and the Power Generation Safety Challenge. It was decided to issue the bulletins in an A3 format as display notices as well as in a pocket sized version for easy personnel reference. The first bulletin of 2008 has been distributed and covers the PPE issued in 2007/2008 with particular emphasis on the requirements for arc resistant PPE. Further bulletins are planned over the course of the year covering:
Safety bulletins are available to download in PDF format from the ESB Power Generation Intranet Site, under the Health and Safety dropdown banner. The committee welcomes articles of interest for inclusion, so please contact any member of the committee with your ideas or suggestions. |
