Industrial Heritage Association On the 27th January at a function in ESB Head Office, Mary McMahon Chairperson of IHAI thanked ESB for hosting their 4th annual awards ceremony. Mary thanked Brid Horan, Executive Director ESB Customer Supply & Group Services for ESB support, both for the event and for ESB's very pro-active approach to safeguarding their own heritage, and also for making a very significant contribution to preserving the country's industrial heritage. She paid tribute to the work being carried out by ESB Archive & Heritage staff and also thanked Brendan Delany, Archive & Heritage Manager ESB, for his ongoing contribution to the executive committee of IHAI. In her welcoming address Brid Horan stated the work that the IHAI organisation is carrying out is absolutely essential. "I think you will all agree with me when I say, without the requisite knowledge and awareness of our industrial heritage no steps would be taken to safeguard what in effect is an essential part of our history and shared past," she said. The great work that your organisation undertakes in trying to address this requirement and also in trying to engage the help of those in the wider community to support this process is all the more commendable as it is being done very largely on a voluntary basis, in the spirit of service." |
