Shannonbridge Boiler 1 demolition

In dense fog, boiler 1 is demolished at Shannonbridge. The former power station site at Shannonbridge was included as part of the sale agreement with the Spanish utility company, Endesa. Before handing over the site, ESB Power Generation is required to demolish the old Shannonbridge Power Station.

ESB awarded the contract to carry out this work to a specialist demolition contractor, Robinson & Birdsell Ltd, and they began work on the site last September. The first of a number of demolitions took place in mid February with the demolition of Boiler 1.

A further four buildings are scheduled for demolition between now and the end of July when the old station chimneys will be taken down by controlled explosion. The site is expected to be ready to be handed over to Endesa later in September.
